Wine in Barossa

The kies family arrived from silesia in 1857 and has been growing grapes in the utopian hamlet of lyndoch ever since. Now fifth generation hosts michael and tina kies have expanded the small ironstone cottage cellar door to include a caf�, tea centre and function area, providing a one-stop destination for barossa visitors. In the 1980s the family opened their winery cellar door at the entrance to the barossa, just north of lyndoch, and has since been a place where the european traditions of open door welcomes and hearty laughs have reverberated. The warmth and honesty of family life are important values for michael and tina and they encourage their visitors to slow down, relax, chat and be part of the kies culture for as long as they wish.

Tina remembers the opening well, it really was fair a run down trivial cottage, once old as a Chaff Mill. Our focus has always been on quality not quantity. This is why we retain our wine production trivial to keep the quality and its distinctive varietal characters. In 2006 Kiel Family Wines were getting busier and even though importance was placed on sustaining the character and ambiance of the cellar door, it was definite that there was a need to build on in order to accommodate the steady stream of regular customers frequenting the cellar door. From 2006 customers had the option to chill out, drink their wine and appreciate local Barossa produce. Tina jumped at the chance to further her passion for tea, building on a trivial tea shop showcasing gourmet tea and a magical array of tea pots of all shapes and sizes. From the managing the vineyard, to selling for Kiel Authentic Estate to public speaking, he has everlasting been a hard worker and a very busy guy! Since he was honest a trivial boy Michael started active in the vineyard. His passion for his beloved vines is so strong, that we swear he has named them individually. Michael would often inspect his vines whilst wearing his suit and many customers would interrogate who the lofty man was, walking around in the vineyard in a suit. That is how The Suit our premium Cabernet, was born. Along with the love and protection for his vines Michael has embarked on a new career, helping people attain their dreams in sales, which involves training, mentoring people and public speaking. You will confront Bronson in the cellar door during the week and he works beautiful much every week end. His character is as large as life, and resembles his grandfather Ken Kiel in many ways. Bronson loves our wines he is arrogant of his heritage, loves his family and friends, and tells a good story. So pop in and face him! Jess studied Media at Adelaide University majoring in Multimedia, but her passion is sales and marketing. We love it when she is home because she lightens up the world with her smile and cheeky nature. He is an effortless going, really nice guy that everyone loves. Jo Irvine has been making Kiel Family Wines since the first of the Millennium. All of us here at Kiel Family Wines thank her for her constant passion, diligence and the care she takes in making our beautiful wines. Kate has been active at Kiel family wines for a few years and she is like one of the family. Originating from Ireland, Sam is a laugh and enjoys cordial people from all over the world to the cellar door. Sam's favorite wine is the Chaff Mill Cabernet Sauvignon and of course a scanty beers here and there as well.
