Breeders gain by value adding, by increasing their herds premium fibre pedigree towards commercial processors acceptable standards, and not being left out of pocket if the cria falls short of expectations. Breeders wishing to be involved with the Premium Fleece concept may be interested in breeding towards it. The 'Original Australian Prestige Alpaca Breeding program' has been structured specifically for breeders producing for the Premium Fleece industry and offers three main attributes: Sires reaching working age are thoroughly fleece tested thereby identifying those whose fleece traits are as required by the commercial fibre processors, with superior graded stock admitted to the programs sire register, also made available is the testing company's comments.
